Andromono

Elite Androgyne Mena has a real baby in a future world where natural reproduction is forbidden

“Andros fear the dark, Monos fear for their lives.”

Elite androgyne Mena is unfulfilled and wants a real baby to love, not biosphere born as she was. But in 2266 in a world where natural reproduction is forbidden this is dangerous. When she is informed that she is to be sterilised, she decides to rebel and gets a mono client to make her pregnant. This propels her into conflict with the powerful Sexurity organisation who are embarking on a genocide of monos. She is compelled to join the mono underground and go literally underground, to support their resistance against the genocide and to protect her illegal andromono baby. Aided by the protection of hordes of vicious, abandoned robocats they hold out until Mena has her baby, but then Sexurity inevitably close in…
Mix
Original Biosphere born andro male. Powerful Head of Sexurity Intercontinental. Imposes a mass sterilisation programme, a genocide of monos and creates a new breed of genderless humans. He also loves Mena.
Biff
Biosphere born Androman rebel and recluse. Brilliant inventor and scientist. Friend and mentor to Ragman, close to Mena and Lion his pet Robocat. Disturbed by the destructive impact of his inventions.
Luther
Monoman musician and client of Mena. She gets him to make her pregnant and he becomes the father of the first andromono child and reluctant leader of the mono underground. Gentle soul who suffers from depression.
Ragman
Spent his childhood living underground. A mono survivor who lives on his sharp wits, self-sufficiency, and alacrity. Biff is his only friend. Rises spectacularly in a world he doesn’t really belong in.

Reviews

"The year is 2266 in a world where androgynous ‘andros’ rule and gendered ‘monos’ are a barely tolerated, oppressed minority. Head of Sexurity andro Mix plans to implement a mass sterilization programme while overseeing the creation of the first genderless humans — the neutros. But his biosphere-born ‘sister’ Mena wants to give birth to a baby and enlists the services of mono-male Luther to get pregnant, which is forbidden… In this pacy, compelling novel, packed with ideas and engaging characters that stay with you long after you’ve finished the book, is a story of topical relevance to anyone concerned about gender identity politics. It’s also a great read. The main characters are convincing and well-rounded. The baddies have redeeming features, while the heroes have flaws. The inventiveness of the language used to describe this plausible dystopia is crammed with neologisms — comcubes, sex-sharers, orgobeds, hovercars, vicious robocats — to name but a few, and much fun is had visualizing these concepts. The writing is cinematic and vivid — plenty of sex, violence, suspense and drama, but also humour. This imaginative tour de force would make a great film, TV series or even a graphic novel. And deserves a wide readership."
