"The year is 2266 in a world where androgynous ‘andros’ rule and gendered ‘monos’ are a barely tolerated, oppressed minority. Head of Sexurity andro Mix plans to implement a mass sterilization programme while overseeing the creation of the first genderless humans — the neutros. But his biosphere-born ‘sister’ Mena wants to give birth to a baby and enlists the services of mono-male Luther to get pregnant, which is forbidden… In this pacy, compelling novel, packed with ideas and engaging characters that stay with you long after you’ve finished the book, is a story of topical relevance to anyone concerned about gender identity politics. It’s also a great read. The main characters are convincing and well-rounded. The baddies have redeeming features, while the heroes have flaws. The inventiveness of the language used to describe this plausible dystopia is crammed with neologisms — comcubes, sex-sharers, orgobeds, hovercars, vicious robocats — to name but a few, and much fun is had visualizing these concepts. The writing is cinematic and vivid — plenty of sex, violence, suspense and drama, but also humour. This imaginative tour de force would make a great film, TV series or even a graphic novel. And deserves a wide readership."
